The Palomino Team

The Palomino Team is a tutoring program presently focusing primarily on remedial reading for students in first through third grades. The program also provides remedial math upon request. We meet at Centennial from the beginning of October to the end of April on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4:45 PM to 5:30 PM. The Palomino Team tutoring program was formed in 2002.

Join the Team

The committee for The Palomino Team Tutoring Program is requesting additional members. The program is for students in kindergarten through third grades. The committee members assist with the training of volunteers, managing, and seeking new resources. The Palomino Team reaches out to the children living in Centennial’s neighborhood as well as the children of Centennial. It has been proven that assisting children at the beginning of their education is an effective way to help them reach their learning potential.

Volunteer tutors are trained either by a tutoring specialist with the 621 school district or by retired teachers. A monthly meeting for the parents of the children enrolled in the program is also provided. THERE IS NO ENROLLMENT FEE.

The mission statement of the Palomino Team is to motivate each child to:

• Learn to enjoy reading
• Grow in the development of basic reading skills
• Feel nurtured by their tutor

The schedule for 2007-2008 school year will begin on October 2, 2007 and go through April 24, 2008. This program has a one to one student teacher ratio. The maximum enrollment is 20 children. This program requires 40 volunteers (20 on Tuesday and 20 on Thursday) who are trained by either retired teachers or reading/math specialists.
